Meet Joanna Vanderpool, Founder of Citizens Serving Our Community – By Chrystal Allen-O’Jon

She, along with her team of volunteers have partnered with the Maricopa Library & Cultural Center to host Citizens Serving Our Community’s Kwanzaa Celebration over two nights, December 28 and 30, 2021.

Expect two family-friendly evenings. The event will include dancing, singing, a history lesson on this 55-year-old holiday. There will be opportunities to win beautiful Kwanzaa goodie baskets. Come explore the differences and the similarities to other seasonal holidays, and learn what’s at the heart of each of Kwanzaa’s “Nguzo Saba” or Seven Principles.

Kwanzaa was developed in 1966 to unite the far-flung African American community, free from the excesses of typical holiday celebrations. Check out this unique American holiday over two nights.
