A Perspective by AMPS Magazine Phoenix Owner & Publisher Kenya Rivers

There have been more judgments on how one should look, since the beginning of time. When we come out of the womb, we are born to see each other as the same. Meaning we see each other with love, not by the color of their skin. Now that we are in the 2000’s people are still being judged by the color of their skin, how their hair is styled, what clothes they wear in public, and the tattoo art presented on their bodies. So many are guilty of judgment until a conversation is started to see the individual’s natural intelligence.

Years ago, people had difficulty expressing their inner self because their families or friends would be ashamed of them. Many more people are not afraid to say their sexual preference because there is support from people who understand where they are coming from. Just because you may be different from some doesn’t mean you don’t have feelings or you can’t get a job done effectively. LGBTQ community has made sure that their organization will support others with some of the same cultural issues that everyone doesn’t understand. Most of the time, people who don’t understand diversity don’t want to understand or are just set in their ways.

Many people that have been in the system have a hard time getting a job. Most of the time, even though they are qualified for the job, they are not hired due to their criminal background. There should be more companies that give people with felonies a chance. We live in a time where there is the shortest number of employees at every facility. Everyone makes mistakes but should you pay for that one mistake for the rest of your life. Covid-19 should have humbled some of these business establishments when they could not keep their doors open because there was not sufficient help. Jobs are still judging individuals on the culture instead of their job qualifications. That’s why more people want to start their businesses instead of working for a company or corporation.

You can learn so much from other cultures and the mistakes we all have made. Each culture has a way they work, care for their families, and structure of learning. We can learn a lot from one another. All we must do is listen and stop judging one another.
